To write and to read—two halves of a whole, bound by ink and thought. This pair of mismatched earrings speaks to those who live in the margins of books, who find comfort in the scratch of a pen against paper, and who seek knowledge in the flickering glow of candlelight.
One earring is a vintage French pen nib, dark as midnight ink, a relic of the written word. Stamped on the top part of the pen is light lettering and numbers. The writing says "BATARDE, No. 235, Gilbert & Blazy-Poure". It dangles with quiet elegance, a reminder of letters penned in solitude and stories waiting to be told.
The other is a small heart locket, raw brass kissed by time, bearing a single word: read. Each one is cut from an old book and may have different partial text on it. Within, one may tuck a secret—a name, a phrase, a fragment of a dream. Together, they create a balance of thought and expression.
To read is to listen, to write is to speak. Worn upon the ears, they whisper of late nights in libraries, of leather-bound books and forgotten poems. They are a scholar’s talisman, a writer’s charm, a lover’s devotion to words. The raw brass will deepen with age, much like wisdom gained through years of study.
The pen nib, once an instrument of creation, now rests as a symbol of stories yet unwritten. No two pairs are quite the same, for each holds its own history, its own quiet weight of meaning. Gift them to the poet who lingers in coffee-stained journals. Offer them to the dreamer who finds solace in dusty bookshops.
Keep them for yourself, if you too are one who finds comfort in ink and paper. They are for those who love the written word more than idle chatter, who find beauty in the worn edges of a beloved book. If you understand this, then perhaps these are meant for you.
Maker's note: Since these earrings are made to order from actual vintage book pages the text will appear slightly different with each set. The main text will remain the same, but other partial letters below it will differ.
